GENERAL RULES

GENERAL RULES BERCEO SALAMANCA

BERCEO SCHOOL RULES

Students enrolled at BERCEO SALAMANCA must comply with some basic rules of behaviour. Enrolment in the school implies acceptance of these rules.

-The student will receive a quality education free of any kind of indoctrination, encouraging their critical capacity. To this end, the student will participate and be actively involved in the classes, tasks or activities proposed by the school.

-Students are evaluated objectively and have the right to be informed at all times of their progress and school performance.

-Class attendance is compulsory, as a certificate of attendance will be issued only if 85% of classes have been attended. In order to monitor attendance, teachers have a collaborative daily attendance document. The student, in the following days, will be able to justify his absence and it will not be taken into account. The evaluation achieved in the final certificate is not only based on written tests, but also takes into account active participation in class, work done outside of class, attendance and punctuality, and interaction with classmates.

-Being punctual is compulsory. The school considers it a lack of respect towards the teaching staff and the rest of the classmates not to arrive punctually to class. In these cases, the teacher may refuse entry to the classroom and will note the corresponding absence.

-The student will be respectful both with the staff of the Berceo Salamanca School and with his/her classmates; he/she will respect everyone’s turn to speak and participate, and will be tolerant of anyone’s ideas.

-The student will bring the necessary material to follow his classes: textbook, tablet or laptop, pens, paper, etc. They may also bring dictionaries.

-The student will take a placement test before arriving at the centre to determine the level at which he/she will take the course. No dictionaries, mobile phones, books or other aids may be used for this test.

-Tutorials or support classes are available free of charge. To make use of them, students must inform their teacher or the Head of Studies.

-The activities that the teachers determine to do at home are compulsory and will be taken into account for the final grade of the course.

-It is forbidden to eat inside the classrooms or to use mobile phones during lessons, these must be switched off or switched to silent mode.

-It is forbidden to smoke, drink alcohol or take drugs in the school.

-Facilities are to be maintained and used efficiently. Any intentional damage to the school will be the responsibility of the pupil and the management may decide to expel him/her.

-Personal hygiene will be taken care of and appropriate attire will be worn to class.

If a student commits an offence, the school will take appropriate disciplinary action. In the case of serious misconduct, the student may be expelled immediately, without the right to reimbursement of the course fee.

HOST FAMILY ACCOMMODATION RULES

From the moment the student registers at Berceo Salamanca and chooses the homestay option, we understand that he/she has read and accepts all these rules.

-Berceo Salamanca will send all the details of the accommodation: name, full address and telephone number at least one week before the arrival of the student, who must inform the family of the approximate time of arrival.

-The family will give the student a complete copy of the keys. In case of loss, the student will have to pay the cost of the new copy. We recommend not to bring the address of the accommodation with the keys.

-The family provides the student with towels and sheets for their stay. The room will be completely changed and cleaned by the host family once a week. The student must keep his room tidy at all times.

-The student can choose between half board (breakfast and lunch) or full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and the family will offer a varied weekly menu.

-The student must inform the school or family in advance if he/she has a special diet for health or religion. If the student needs special products other than those provided by the host family, he/she will have to buy them himself/herself.

-Meal times will be set by the families and the student must respect these times.

-The student must give at least 24 hours’ notice if he/she does not attend or if the timetable for a meal is changed. Exceptionally, picnic lunches may be requested in advance if the student is going on a trip.

-The family will treat the student as a member of the family. The student must treat the house and the other members of the family with respect and will have a tidy room and bathroom.

-We recommend that students take advantage of meal times so that they can practice their Spanish and share experiences with the family.

-The family’s hours of rest must be respected, so no radio, television or telephone may be played after 23:00 hours. If devices are used at night, silence and rest must be respected.

-Other students are not allowed to visit the house, except when authorised by the family.

-Students may use the family’s common areas such as the living room, respecting the family’s customs.

-Students may not use the kitchen or take food from the fridge.

-Students must use electricity and water responsibly. Students should turn off lights in their rooms and other rooms when leaving and make reasonable use of personal appliances: hairdryers, chargers, laptops, etc. In case of excessive use of electricity, gas or water, part of the bills may be claimed for payment.

-Students must maintain an acceptable level of hygiene and tidiness in the bathroom. One shower per day is allowed.

-Laundry is an extra service to be arranged with the school/family. Under no circumstances will the family iron the student’s clothes.

-In the event of any unintentional breakage or damage to household items, we recommend that the student speaks to the family immediately and offers to pay for it. In the case of intentional breakage or misuse, payment is obligatory on the part of the student.

-Should a dispute arise, both parties should contact the school as soon as possible to avoid arguments. Simple situations are easier to resolve if they are reported in good time. It should also be remembered that linguistic misunderstandings occur due to the fact that Spanish is not the student’s mother tongue.

-The school undertakes to change accommodation if there is a problem or dissatisfaction on both sides (family – student). This change will depend on the availability of accommodation.

-If the student wishes to extend his/her stay, he/she should contact the school, which will be responsible for arranging the new dates subject to availability.

RULES FOR ACCOMMODATION IN SHARED FLATS

From the moment a student registers at Berceo Salamanca and chooses the shared flat option, we understand that he/she has read and agrees with these rules.

-A student can stay in a shared flat with other people. These flats are not exclusive to the Berceo Salamanca school, so you can have roommates from other schools, Spaniards, Erasmus students, etc.

-The student will have a single room for private use and will share the rest of the common areas of the house (bathroom, kitchen). He/she is entitled to a space in the fridge and kitchen furniture for his/her food.

-All flats are equipped with furniture and a fully equipped kitchen.

-The student must respect the basic rules of hygiene and order for a perfect coexistence, as well as treat all members of the house with respect and courtesy.

-The school will send all the information related to the shared flat: address and telephone number of the accommodation more than one week in advance. You must inform the school of your arrival date and time so that you can be met.

-On arrival the student will receive a copy of the key.

-The flat must be vacated by 12:00 noon on the day of departure and the keys handed in.

-If you wish to extend your stay you will have to contact the school, who will arrange the extra nights and charge for the service. These extensions are subject to availability.

-The room will be clean on the first day, after which the student is responsible for cleaning the room. They are equipped with full bed linen.

-It is important not to dirty the common areas and to clean up immediately after cooking and eating, as well as to leave the bathroom in good condition after use. All students sharing the flat are responsible for keeping the common areas tidy and clean.

-Rubbish should be taken out daily to avoid hygiene problems. It is important to establish shifts between flatmates. Cleaning products are not included.

-Electricity, water and heating costs are included in the price. The student will make a moderate use of all of them to avoid unnecessary energy consumption: turn off the lights when going out, do not leave taps open, moderate temperature in winter, etc. Excessive use of any of these services will be reclaimed from the students.

-It is not allowed to make noise after 23:00 hours, as any neighbour could alert the police and file a complaint. The fine imposed will be paid by the students living in the flat.

-House parties are not allowed. Spaniards party in Salamanca and meet friends outside the house. Having a party will be grounds for expulsion without the possibility of reimbursement.

-It is not allowed to invite other people to live in the room. In this exceptional case, you must inform the school and pay for your part of the accommodation.

-In case of stays longer than 12 weeks, if you wish to leave the assigned accommodation, you must give the school at least 20 days notice before leaving the room, in order to be able to manage it.

-If you are not satisfied, Berceo Salamanca will find another accommodation, subject to availability.
